Every Day is a miracle out here. GOD IS GOOD!!!

Just one blessing from yesterday... okay so our zone baptism goal for the month of Aug was 11 and as of yesterday it was looking like we weren't going to make it.  We were going to end up with 10 for the month... which is still great, but we all knew that 11 was the number. So during church, while talking to Kevin and Ginny about Christian's baptism for Sept 1, Ginny just felt like that wasn't the date and that it needed to be sooner so SHE changed it to Aug 30!!! It didn't hit me until later that was in AUGUST!  Once it hit me, we called the zone leaders and found out that yesterday both had prayed to be able to meet our goal... AND WE DID! pretty cool!

What a blessing it was to see Kevin prepared and bless the sacrament and then this Thursday be able to baptize his son! What a tender mercy this is to me to see missionary work in a full circle. Last night we were teaching Christian about the prophet and the law of tithing, and Kevin told us how while on a business trip this week in Texas, he gave a copy of The Book of Mormon to one of his friends!!! They've worked together for a while and of course, Kevin told him about him getting baptized.  So naturally,  Kevin told him "Hey just read this and if it enlightens you but you don't want to join, that's ok, because you got something out of it. If you read it and it's just a history book to you, then that's great too because then you learned a little bit more about me.." ohhh boy he is the best missionary ever!

This week was fantastic! We started teaching a new couple from Rwanda, Africa!!! Erwin and Sapi! They are so humble and just ready for the gospel in their lives. While we were teaching them about the apostasy and the effects of it being darkness and confusion, Sapi's eyes were just glued to us.  Obviously, living in Rwanda for most of her life, could understand that darkness! She looked at us and said " Sisters, are you telling me that we have Prophets here on the earth AGAIN, just like moses and Noah, who can help us to get back to God?" That is exactly what we are telling you!! They came to church and was a great sight it was to see them! also  It was also cool because a sister missionary was giving her homecoming and she had just returned FROM AFRICA! God is a God of Miracles!

Elisa and Luiz are doing incredibly well!  We extended a baptism date and are a little hesitant to commit to a specific date, but I know if we give them a bit of time they will know by the power of the Holy Ghost that the things they are learning are true, because they are praying, reading the scriptures and coming to church! Elisa is so cute!  During the lesson she told us how excited she was for her 2 year old Alex to be able to grow up in the church!!!

GOD IS OUR  FATHER, WE ARE HIS CHILDREN, HE LOVES US, AND WE ARE ALL PART OF HIS FAMILY!   We have a prophet today, who teaches us what God would have us know so that we can Return to live with him AGAIN!

Read, Pray, Ask... its that simple ... GOD WILL ANSWER YOU!

I love you all

GREAT WEEK!!:) haha

So Luiz and Elisa! I LOVE THEM
ohhh man i really don't know how i have been so blessed to be able to teach such awesome people. So our first real lesson with both of them was crazy! Pretty much Sister Price was super sick but I made her go to the lesson because we had to meet with them! haha but so we get there and she looks dead.  About 10 min into the lesson she asks if she can use their bathroom and is gone for 30 min throwing up in their bathroom... oops...! but so it was just me teaching the lesson with the fellowship and it actually went really well, Thank goodness for the Spirit, because I don't even think that they really realized that she was gone that long, or at least they didn't say anything about it! haha The lesson was awesome and Elisa would get baptized tomorrow, but Luiz is going to take a little longer. Just to show how much they love us, they invited us to go to Elisa's baby shower the next day to eat papoosas which are an El Salvadorian food! AMAZING by the way! The baby shower was definitely an experience... haha

Elder Aidukaitis, from the first quorum of the 70 came and trained us this week and then we had a fireside with him and we brought our investigators/ recent converts/ and less actives and it was POWERFUL! ohhhh man the Church is TRUE :)  Revelation was coming out of the woodworks and it was just an incredible experience to be able to listen to him. "The proud do what they want and the humble change. To be obedient we must change."  Oh do i need to be more humble... He taught us
A LOT and introduced A LOT of new ways of doing things and I'm struggling with implementing all of them.  I have to because he also said, "sometimes leaders can be like lids (on a stove), they limit the growth".  He taught so simply and powerfully.

There is also a quote in PMG that he changed some words around... I'm was crying when he read this! "I am so thoroughly convinced this; if we don't set goals in our lives [missions] and learn how to master the techniques of living to reach our goals, we can reach a ripe old age [the end of our missions] only to see that we reached but a small part of our full potential. When one learns to master the principles of setting goals, he will then be able to make a difference in the results he attains in this life [mission]." Elder M Russell Ballard

WHY DIDN'T HE COME SOONER.... ughhh! but I'm still grateful

Kevin received the priesthood yesterday and what a GREAT THING! They might wait a little longer until stake baptisms for Christian to be baptized, which is sad because I wont be here, but its all okay because just seeing the changes the gospel has already made in this families lives, is just truly amazing!  No on can ever convince me that this gospel isn't true! There is just TOO MUCH FRUIT!
I love you all so very much :)

Great Week! updates on everyone..

.Paco and Jaquelin are doing good but their non- wedding plans are making it hard for them to progress in the gospel. They know its true and they KNOW the doctrine but they must now be UNDERSTANDING it because if they did, then it would change their heart. The gospel of Jesus Christ is all about changing and sacrificing in order to come closer to our Savior Jesus Christ.

Phoenix is at a standstill because of his parent's non desire to learn, which make it hard for an 8 year old to want to continue to learn and go to church when he knows his parents are at home swimming and such while he is at church... pretty sad situation

On a more positive note, we got a new investigator this week :) Emily is a 14 year old who has been coming to Mutual for a long time and has even been to girls camp twice, and now her parents have finally given her permission to learn! it's so cool to see what just a simple invitation to Mutual can turn into. Those simple activities are so much fun and the spirit is there too, so its hard to not enjoy yourself.

Ginny and Kevin are AWESOME! They are progressing very well - they aren't on date yet, we just extended and baptismal date.  They have only been to church once and that was on Easter, and so on Thursday they committed to come to church. I swear right when they agreed, the adversary was right there. Something random happened to both of them causing them to have to REALLY change their plans in order for them to be able to make it to church. Thankfully, they recognized it was the adversary causing all of these problems, so they hung on strong and told us on Sat. that they still would be there on Sunday. Kevin told us some concerns that he had with Temples but we were in a mad rush and pretty much left it up to his fellowship family to answer his questions, which was pretty scary. Then on Sunday, both of the adult talks in Sacrament meeting were on temples -which could've been scary too, but their talks were the BEST I've ever heard about the temple! Seriously, it was awesome, and then after that, Gospel Principles was all about sacrifice and they BOTH commented in class. They are just truly amazing and I love them so much. Satan knew how amazing church was going to be and how it would be exactly what they would need, so he tried his very hardest to get them to not come, but it didn't work!

PRICE AND I ARE STAYING TOGETHER!!!

You have no idea how relieved I am! She will be my 2nd - 6 month companion and I feel so blessed to have had the best companions ever! Just from who my companions are I know that this is the Lord's work! From each of my companions I have learned specific things that have helped me see things that I need to change in myself. I am just jumping for joy that Sister Price and I are going to be together for my last transfer because there is so much to be done and I'm just so grateful for her because we work so well together. This last week we had 18 Teaching Opportunities, which is HUGE for our area and is our all time high for the 4 1/2 months that we have been together, and now we will just continue on and see even more miracles!

RJ got baptized this week and it really was an awesome experience! Once again, there was some definite opposition coming against him in preparation for the baptism, but thankfully, he recognized it as just that.  Afterwards, he told us of the peace that overwhelmed him once he was baptized and then soon after he received the gift of the Holy Ghost :)  What a blessing it is to have God's Authority here on the earth.

In my personal study this morning I came across this verse in Alma 13: 7 :
"This high priesthood being after the order of his Son, which order was from the foundation of the world; or in other words, being without beginning of days or end of years, being prepared from eternity to all eternity, according to his foreknowledge of all things—"

God's Authority is without beginning of end, from all eternity  to eternity....  What a blessing!

We had a pretty cool experience on Sat after the baptism too. We have been trying to get in contact with this less active member of the church and so Sat. afternoon we stopped by and she  miraculously was home! So she let us in and her nonmember friend, named Matt, just happened to be there too. We starting chatting and came to figure out that Matt is very interested in the church and said he would love to learn more from us! He had to run to do something so was just about to leave when a big Haboob struck - which just means a big wind storm-! Tons of trees blew over and outside was orange because all the dust from the Arizona dessert was being blown around, Sooo Matt couldn't leave. We taught him about the Restoration and really emphasized the importance of the priesthood that has been restored to the earth through a modern- day prophet. He listened so intently and just said " That makes sense!"  Weirdly enough,  he has always lived in AZ but has never had any LDS friends until Kim (the LA lady) and now he interested! SUPER COOL! We will teach him and Kim this Sat :)

Ginni and Kevin are AMAZING! We extended the date of Aug 11 for them to get baptized but they said they couldn't say yes yet,  but that they are preparing to be baptized.  Then they continued to ask about after baptism. I LOVE this area and miracles are literally happening everyday!
I LOVE being a missionary and I LOVE this gospel!!!!

Another cool scripture that is pretty much my motto is in Romans 1:16
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth..."

I love you all soo much! Go and share the good news of the gospel
Love,

July 15, 2012

Hello all,
Funny, but SUPER embarrassing moment! Hahaha I can't even believe that this is going to be put on my blog but oh well.... this story is evidence that the Lord works in mysterious ways. So Paco and Jaquelin have been either out of town or attending every social event known to man so we haven't taught them in 2 weeks... not good! So we see Jaquelin outside and we go and help her carry in groceries. We take them to her house but she says that she has to hurry so we can't stay. Well so literally right when we were saying good-bye, OUT OF NO WHERE, my nose starts to bleed.! Haha, if you know me, you know this thing happens all the time, but NEVER in public!  Jaquelin sees what has happened and invites us in to fix it, and while I'm taking care of my nose, Sister Price talked to Jaquelin and she opened up about some of her troubles. We were able to share some scriptures with her and Paco and have a prayer with them! MIRACLE! Hahaha it really was the weirdest and most random thing ever! Gotta love it!

We met with Kevin and Ginni this week and it was the best thing ever!  I don't even know how to go about describing their lesson, besides amazing and powerful! The spirit was so strong and Kevin and Ginni completely opened up and told us that they recognize that they have been led all their lives to be exactly at the place where they are now and to be taught the lessons by US!  We soft-committed them for baptism and they agreed, but they told us that they want to go REALLY slow because they want to know everything! Well, they will never know everything, but thank goodness they have awesome neighbors who are reading with them in the Book of Mormon through the week, so that will be awesome!  At the beginning of the lesson we asked them why they wanted to learn and they told us "we would be stupid to not!"  They have had so many positive experiences with the Church and so they already know that it's true! Pretty amazing how that Lord is preparing people their whole lives to be able to accept the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

Rjs baptism is this weekend which will be AWESOME! Next week is transfers so cross your fingers that I stay here for my last ( WEIRD) transfer and that hopefully Sister Price will stay with me as well! Great week!

I love you all :)

July 9, 2012

Hello Everyone,

I def.  do not have enough time today to be to write ALL of the blessing that Heavenly Father has down poured on us this week! Seriously, it really is crazy amounts of miracles we have encountered, which strengthen my faith even more in my Savior.

Where to even start...
RJ: okay so RJ is married to a member and has already read the Book of Mormon and is actually on the 3rd book of the Work and Glory... why isn't he a member? He has known the church was true for a while but he is now ready to commit to the lifestyle ... mainly keeping the Sabbath day holy. So when he attended church last week (he has been hopping wards so we didn't even know about him) he felt the push that he needed to make better decisions for himself and his family and so he just got on Mormon.org and requested missionaries! WHAT!!! ya that really happens! so ya he is now on date to be baptized on July 21 and he is so excited and has a date already set for next Aug 2013 to be sealed to his wife! He is awesome and a blast to teach because he already has a pretty good foundation so its like were teaching these lessons for the 2nd time because ohhh ya... he has already read Preach My Gospel too! Crazy!

Also! okay so a LONG time ago when I first got into this area I wrote about this family who is awesome! The husband has already read the Book of Mormon 3 times and he is pretty much just waiting on his wife. So the wife has a mother who literally HATES the church, so that was her main hold up, plus some bad experiences in the past.  Thanks to awesome neighbors, her heart began to soften. A long time ago we talked to them outside and we had an awesome conversation with Gini and she told us that she would call because she wanted to learn,  but obviously that never happened. So they came to church on Easter and loved it, but because of grief from her mom that was the only time that they attended.  For some reason Sister Price and I both got a really strong impression to go and knock on their door... at 8:00 at night of all times... so we did! we were pretty nervous because we were sure if the member- neighbors knew we were doing this they would kill us!  They are just super nervous of them feeling overwhelmed, but we did it anyways. So we knocked and Gini answered the door! She was SOO excited to see us and the Spirit just touched her and she just opened up and spilled her guts to us about everything that was going on and all her the craziness in her life. She then told us that she had been reading the Book of Mormon with her husband and that SHE WANTS TO LEARN!

Okay, this is a FAMILY! I have been praying to be able to teach a family my whole mission!!! It's Kevin, Ginni, and their 8-ish year old son! The gospel BLESSES FAMILIES! Truths such as "Families can be together forever" are found within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and with God's authority that has been restored to the earth, that truth is made possible!

After we left Gini's house Sister price and I were skipping and jumping and we got into the car and screamed out guts out! haha! missionary work is the best work and the most important work to be done while here on this earth! I am so grateful to be here and to be able to serve in this area! Heavenly Father hears and answers our prayers... Especially when were exactly obedient!

The good news of the gospel is that Joseph Smith IS a true prophet and God's authority to be able to act in His name and SEE MIRACLES, has been restored to the earth!!! :)
love you all.

July 2, 2012

HELLO HELLO
okay so funny story! For anyone who has ever been my roommate, you know that I talk in my sleep! Well nothing has changed and all my companions really get a kick out of it. So earlier this week I woke up Sister Price by saying  "Ahhhh SHADE"! hahaha that tells you how hot it is here when I dream about shade.
                                                                                                   Happy Birthday Sister Price!

This awesome member bought us these SWEET misters that fit in our back packs and when I hand pump it and turn this knob, the best mist ever comes out :) LIFE SAVER!

Another funny/embarrassing moment this week! So we were biking... yes BIKING in 112 degree weather... and we stopped and talk to this guy who CLEARLY was not interested in anything we had to say, so we ended the conversation and as we were biking away I said "See ya, try to

BE COOL. uhhhhh I meant to "STAY COOL, STAY COOL!" haha hopefully, he didn't think that I meant to say be cool! haha it was hilarious!

This week has been great! Lately we've been teaching lots of less actives that are coming back to church and it's just so awesome to see. I love being able to bear my testimony and to literally, have my mouth filled with the things the Lord would have me say. The Gift of Prophesy is something that has been really new for me on my mission. Heavenly Father is a God of order and He set up a system where we can receive revelation for those we have stewardship over,  and really... I've never had stewardship over anyone- like parents over their children, bishops over wards , etc! Now that I'm set apart to be a missionary, my companion and I can receive revelation for those that we are teaching and its such an amazing spiritual gift to receive! I can't even count the amount of times Sister Price says something that I am literally JUST about to say!

Okay so this is a really short letter, but this week we are emailing in a different place and I CANNOT concentrate! This girl next to me is gossiping about another girl about how she needs to get married fast because she is 22 and is almost ANCIENT... awkward!

The Church is TRUE!!! Sister Price and I received blessings from our Zone Leaders last night and it was seriously to best thing ever. The priesthood is REAL and has definitely been restored to the earth! I received so much council that Heavenly Father knew I needed to hear so I could be more dedicated and directed these last couple of months on my mission. I am so grateful for worthy priesthood holders who hold God's authority here on earth!

Ughhh, hot and sweaty every day!

I've been out 15 months!!!!

June 25, 2012

Hello family and friends!
I cannot believe it is P-day already. Days are flying by like nobody's business and I'm so thankful because it sure is HOT out here!

The theme of last week seemed to be that "PRAYERS ARE ANSWERED"!

Soo Phoenix!  We planned to teach him about the Word of Wisdom, which, for all of you who aren't aware, is a commandment God has given us that will help us to keep our bodies heathy.  We don't partake of coffee, tea, tabacco, alcohol, and other harmful and addictive substances. So Phoenix's  parents DEFINITELY do not follow this commandment, probably because they don't know about it. (Although the stepdad is a heart and lung doctor, so it really blows my mind that he smokes like a chimney!)  You can imagine how nervous I was to tell him that God doesn't want him to do the things his parents are doing!

Phoenix's parents were with us for a bit, but then after the opening prayer they went outside to.... SMOKE! haha okay, so first we teach him about what commandments are and why they are given to us, and then before we started teaching him about the Word of Wisdom, I  said a prayer in my mind that everything would go well;  that Heavenly Father would please help us in the things that we said.  Right before the words came out of our mouths about the Word of Wisdom,  Daina (mom)walked back into the house and it was just perfect because I called her over and told her what we were teaching Phoenix and about the commandment and how God will bless him for keeping it! She was so grateful and told us she knew she shouldn't be smoking and then she told Phoenix she knew the things we were teaching him were right!!!! WHAT!!!! ya so it pretty much was the very best word of wisdom lesson ever!

Also we have been praying for solid referrals from members and in our new ward we were contacting some less active members when we knocked on a lady's door and she invited us right in. We had an awesome conversation with her and she told us how she has been feeling the urge to start coming back to church.. AWESOME! so we continued to talk to her and we asked her if we could teach her the lessons to strengthen her testimony and she agreed and then she asked us if it would be okay if her friend could come and listen too because he has been asking tons of questions. She even has asked already if he could come with her to church!!! So we have a lesson set up with them on Wed. and we're so excited about that  :)

There are SOOO many more stories like this from this week but not enough time. Heavenly father loves us and is soo mindful of us and our individual circumstances. What a blessing!

This morning I was reading a really old talk from Elder Holland and I want to share a part of it that stood out to me:

"I had a missionary ask me once if I would give my life for the church.  I said "Elder, I am giving my life for the church!"  I knew what Elder Holland said, but what he meant was, "would you die for it?"
Dying for it is the easy part. That's a snap, and some days it is really appealing. What God really needs is people who will LIVE FOR IT.  People who will go the distance;  people who are in this race that will go all the way to the tape.  Some may die along the way and that's wonderful, but He needs people who will FINISH THE WORK."

That is us! you and me together We CAN do this work :)

Love you all,
Sister Martin

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JENNY!!! I LOVE YOU

Happy FATHERS DAY POPS love love love you :)

Best Zone ever!  I miss them!
Okay soooo with transfers this week we didn't get moved around,  but we did get another ward! Now we cover 4 wards again which I have been used to my whole mission, but I have just done 3 family wards and 1 singles.  Having 4 family wards is much different! We are very excited but kinda nervous for more work when it seems like all of our efforts are focused on our investigators to get them progressing... sooo we're going to have to really multitask now. But so we're so excited because the Highland Groves Ward decided THEMSELVES that they were going to do a 40 -day fast for missionary work. Each family in the ward signs up for 1 day out of the 40 to fast and it will be for 40 days straight.... CRAZY!  I'm so excited because that ward is really struggling right now and Heavenly Father will see our efforts in finding those whom he is preparing to receive the gospel.

It's HOTTT... and not just a little, i mean HOT! Today the high is 114 degrees!!!!
I'm so glad its p-day so we don't have to be outside all day. I saw a scorched lizard the other day by the side of our house and it was so sad.  How do people live here... I feel like I'm Fifal in "Fafal Goes West",  just seeing mirages in the distance of huge sprinkler systems!

This week we had a lot of ups and downs, but thankfully, I have a sweet comp so we just laugh at all the bad things that happen.  "Faith, hope and charity bringeth unto me- the Foundation of ALL Righteousness" Ether 12:28.

"Seek Heavenly guidance one day at a time; life by the yard is hard, by the inch, it's a cinch" Elder Uchtdorf

This week we had a cool experience where we ran into a former investigator who was SUPER stressed about her disobedient children who have completely rejected God in their lives. Thankfully, I had a "Family, Proclamation to the World" in my backpack, so we read through that with her and the spirit just comforted her and softened her heart. She invited us to eat dinner with her  family the next day. We came to dinner and the evidence of a broken home was too much to cover up. She made her 3 kids all sit down around the table and when we asked if we could bless the food I thought the kids (8,16,& 19) might just kill us.. HAHA but we did and the spirit was invited into their home and the mom said for the first time everyone got along. We joked about video games, Facebook, and just TV shows (everything I NEVER talk about, so I really had to wrack my brain to remember normal everyday stuff to relate to them)!  It was just awesome! The teens became polite and it was just crazy to witness the transformation that took place in that room.

"All human beings-male and female- are created in the image of God" God is our loving Heavenly Father and he really does LOVE US! I am so grateful for that knowledge :)

love,

June 10, 2012

Sister's service day with Sister Doll and below with Sister Adams!!
I love her and lived with her in Queen Creek for 2 transfers!

hello hello
I'M STAYING IN SKYLINE!!!
Woohooo and sister price and are both staying our together. Price has been here for 5 months so I thought she might get transferred, but we are safe and sooo excited to stay here together.

We had some sad news this week... because Lili is Chinese, and in their culture, when someone has a baby they stay home -literally don't leave their home- for a month! So Lili's sister just had a baby and  lives in Kentucky. When she got the call that her sister had her baby (premature), she called us and said she would be gone for a month and then she was off a couple hours later!  I guess that means she won't be here for her baptism on the 16th... super sad! It's okay though, because she will be back soon enough!

BUT sooo we have met some AMAZING people this last week. We met this lady named Ina in the apartments who just recently moved here from Ohio,  We told her about the Book of Mormon and what a blessing it is because so much has been taken out of the Bible,  She was like a moth to a light! She was so excited to learn and after we gave her a Book of Mormon she said, "Okay so where do we go from here" haha best question ever! Now we are meeting with her and, hopefully, her two daughters on Thursday :)

Also, randomly, we got a call from this guy named RJ, who's wife is a member, and he wants to learn!  FASTING WORKS!!!

Sister Price and I really do work so hard, but we have yet to have a baptism together!!!  THIS IS OUR TRANSFER! This is our "harvesting transfer", and I'm just so glad that we get to be together for a longer time. She is the nicest person ever and people just can't help feel the spirit around her!  Plus I have A LOT more to learn from her! She has some rough situations back home and she just presses forward like nothing is wrong. Heavenly Father loves us sooo much and has blessed me on my mission with amazing companions and amazing once- in- a -lifetime experiences that have shaped me into the person that I am now!

I love this quote that was in this last conference from Neil L Andersen:
"Discipleship is not a competition at all, but an invitation to all. Our journey of discipleship is not a dash around the track, nor is it fully comparable to a lengthy marathon. In truth, it is a lifelong marathon toward a more Celestial World. His invitation is a call to DAILY DUTY."

We all have so much to do everyday so don't waste a minute.  Even after my mission I know that it's not the end! I have taught SOOO many inactive return missionaries and that is the VERY WORST! We must Press forward with a steadfastness in Christ with a perfect brightness of hope, feasting on the words of Christ!  2 nephi 31:20

May 28, 2012 Memorial Day and Kass' birthday!

Hello and Happy Memorial Day!
Of course, Happy Birthday Kass! I love you darling sister-in-law!

Today is so wonderful seeing flags in almost every yard! I really makes me appreciate the county we live in and the freedoms that we get to freely enjoy :) How thankful I am for the great men and women who have served,  and are serving today for all of us to be able to continue to enjoy this beautiful country. I hope you all have a blast today with  everyone today! Tell everyone hi from me!!!

Usually I bring my journal with me but I forgot it, sooo I can't remember anything! Ohhh, but mom I studied President Monson's talk this week too and I just love it!!!

Hebrew 12:1-   "Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

This scripture was in that talk and it really stayed with me this week and helped me to have a better perspective on my days. "Run with Patience the Race that (this is key) is set before us!" What a powerful scripture filled with love from a loving Heavenly Father telling his children He has a plan prepared for all of us and it up to us to be able to achieve all that He has is store for us!

This week was HOT..until the weekend, but the week had two days of 108 degrees! Last Wed. we had 3 lessons fall through before lunch and so I was pretty worried about what we were going to do all day in the heat, but we had a whole bunch of names we just found in some really old progress records from 2008.  So we decided to visit all of those, even though we were confident none of them would still be living at those addresses, since all the names were at an apartment complex!  So we knocked and knocked and knocked and nothing was happening, UNTIL we got to a house where a lady named Esther answered the door. She poked her head out and told us she was Baptist, and was about to shut the door, but we bore a simple testimony that Christ's Church has been restored and she stopped talking and invited us in. We came in taught her about the Restoration and she completely understood and called us "her angels" by the time we were ready to leave! She is excited about reading The Book of Mormon and told us "I know that the Holy Spirit will tell me if that book is true if I have an open mind about it and pray." Shocked that she had pretty much quoted Moroni 10:4-5, we agreed and left it with her and set up a time to come back this week. She didn't want to come to church until after she had read some so I'm super excited to meet with her again, because I know that she WILL receive a witness by the power of the Holy Ghost! I know that the Book of Mormon is, in fact, Another Testament of Jesus Christ and that Christ's church and authority has been restored!
Esther is from Kenya, Africa and she has listened to God her whole life and is very in tune with the spirit, so I'm excited for her to discover the blessings of the gospel.

We also had some awesome lessons with Paco and Jaquelin, Phoenix and Lili! They are all having their struggles right now but Sister Price and I fasted yesterday and I know that will really help them in their progression in the gospel!

Agency, and the ability to choose for ourselves is a free gift that we all have,  It's something that can be super frustrating because we see people make decisions that are not the best..  I guess that's the process of learning. My parents had to suffer watching me make mistake after mistake and I will continue to see that,  not only now, but when I'm a parent as well. Seeing this process helps me to love and appreciate our Heavenly Father even more because He must be devastated at times while witnessing His children suffer so much!

I am so gratefull for Him and this "race that has been set before us".
I know that patiently running through it is the only way to go!

I love you all so very much :)

Hello, hello! GREAT WEEK... like always :)

where to start...

LiLi: so we taught her The Plan of Salvation this week!  LiLi is in her 20's and is married with a 4 year old and so we focused the most on eternal families!  Families are not something Heavenly Father wants us to experience here in this life only!  NO, He knows we are the most happy when we are with our families so He made it possible for families to last FOR ETERNITY!  In Matthew, we learn that with the authority of God we can be bound to our families in this life, which binds us to them in heaven! What an amazing blessing that is! So we were teaching her about this amazing concept that she has never heard before and it has filled her with peace and happiness!
LiLi left all of her family back in China and really doesn't know if she will ever see them again in person, so the knowledge that she will for sure have the opportunity to be with them after this life was very overwhelming to her! She then accepted the invitation to be baptized and it was just awesome :)  The gospel of Jesus Christ is awesome!

Also, we took Phoenix (the 8 year old) to a baptism on Saturday to see this 9 year old being baptized and right before it started we explained to him what the ordinance of baptism represented and told to pay attention to how he was feeling during the baptism because the Holy Ghost will tell his heart if it's right of not. So the talks began and then the boy was baptized and right as the boy came out of the water, Phoenix turned to us and said " I want to be baptized right now, I feel the Holy Ghost!"!  Coolest thing ever!  After the service we walked outside to meet his mom and we talked to her about setting a date and she said that she is interested in learning more!!!! She wasn't there for the baptism and never sits in when we're there, but she said that she is interested in learning about what makes her son so happy! (remember she is Buddhist) Gotta love it :)

The Gospel of Jesus Christ unifies us all!
"and it came to pass that there was no contention in the land because of the LOVE OF GOD which did dwell in the hearts of the people." 4th Nephi 1:15.

MOM! thank you soooo much for the new awesome camera! I'm so annoyed though my old one works!!!  It did not work with my camera card at all and i asked them if I could use one of theirs at Best Buy to see if it would work and the worker assured me that it wouldn't! LAME!   I can't believe my camera card is erased!!!!  That makes me want to cry...literally, I can't believe it!  I'm glad that I've been emailing pictures home to you,  so at least we have some! You are awesome mama :) i love you!

It's supposed to be 110 today but it really doesn't matter! Heavenly Father loves us all so much and no unhallowed hand or HEAT can stop the work from progressing. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is Christ's church restored to the earth!

i love you all so much :)

May 14, 2012

Hello Hello

It was so good to see my family on Skype yesterday, minus Taylor, Crystal and Kass. I have a new determination to lose weight because EVERYONE has lost weight since I left home, which is good for them, but not so good for me! haha It kinda feels like a dream, like it wasn't real life for me to have been able to talk to you. I loved it though!. It was so cute when Lindsay and Lauren called me :) I'm glad i was able to talk to them. I cant believe how well they are doing with their Personal Progress.

So last night was so cool!   Rene and Carrie, who are Paco and Jaquelin's neighbors that we haven't been able to contact... well we saw them last night. We were walking through their street and saw their light on,  so we decided to knock and they were very happy to see us. We came inside and talked with them a bit, and then Rene said " You know girls, I have to be completely honest with you ( at this point I was freaking out because I thought he was going to tell us they didn't want to meet with us anymore) and tell you that it is such a blessing you stopped by tonight when you did,  Carrie has been having the worst day! We then found out that Carrie's mom passed 5 years ago and Mother's Day is her most hated day! We were able to teach her about the Spirit World and about temples and the amazing work that can be done there to help our families be able to return to live with our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ!  I just love the Spirit because it is so powerful and bears witness to these sacred truths. So in all it was a wonderful day :)

I'll share an awesome scripture that really hit me this morning:
"And I have a work for thee [Sister Martin] my [daughter] and thou art in the similitude of mine    Only Begotten; and mine Only Begotten is and shall be the Savior, for he is full of grace and truth..." Moses 1:6  We are ALL literal sons and daughters of a loving Heavenly Father and He loves us so very much :) What a blessing it is to know this truth!

This week we had to switch apartments with the Elder's, because our apartment was pretty big.  They put 4 Elders together where we used to live and now we live in one of the Elder's apartment. The other apartment they closed because it is saving the church money.  The Elders lived in that apartment for 10 YEARS!!!! Ya, so you can imagine what it looked like!!! Thankfully, our housing coordinator loves us so she filled in ALL the holes ...there were many... and repainted it,  which helped out a lot! After some DEEP cleaning, it is now starting to smell okay. Thank goodness.

My address has changed and I live at the same apartment complex,  but in apt 1036.
WRITE ME THERE :)

I love you all to pieces!

Much love,
Sister Martin

Hello,

Where to even start...

Phoenix!  So just to clarify, we met Phoenix right after we met with Paco and Jaquelin the first time.  We were skipping through the park and we see the family -mom,dad and son and we talked with them and Phoenix chirped up (even though the parents said no thank you because they were Buddhist) and said that he would love to learn more about Jesus. SO. . . since then we have been teaching him and this week he went on the Father and Sons campout with the ward. Sadly, his stepdad had to work but his parents gave the okay for him to go with the family that we bring with us to his lessons and he just had a blast. That is just the coolest thing ever that he was able to go!  After he got back Phoenix's mom called and just thanked us up and down for that experience for phoenix! Sweet!

Paco and Jaquelin!  They came to church this sunday! It was their first time and they showed up all spiffy Jaquelin wearing a dress and Paco even wearing a suit jacket! At the end they thanked us and seemed to have really enjoyed themselves, but we will get the real scoop this week. We had the best lesson with them and we taught them about having faith, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost and enduring to the end. It was powerful and amazing and at the end Jaquelin said "I finally get it!" It was awesome and we extended a date for baptism and they accepted so we told them that in order to get baptized, they would have to be keeping all of God's commandments, meaning getting married. They totally agreed and told us they would talk about it this week and we can make plans when we meet with them this week! SOOO EXCITED! they are just amazing :)

Deborah!  A month or so ago we met Deborah and she told us to come back, which we did 2 times and both times she said I'm not feeling well and asked us to come back another time. We were thinking that she really wasn't interested, but thought we would try back one more time. So we did and to our surprise she answered and invited us in. We then sat down and tried to get to know her a bit and asked her about her family and she just completely opened up and told us about two of her sons that had passed. She proceeded to tell us -very emotionally- that one of her sons  (who was atheist)  appeared to her in a dream and told her not to worry about him because he is the happiest that he had ever been and he is in school right now learning about Jesus with a bunch of other people!!!!  You can imagine Sister Price and I are freaking out because she is completely describing the Spirit World and we told her that we knew that the experience she had was true and that those who have passed are intact at this time,  learning more about Jesus in the Spirit World. She was very relieved that we didn't think  she was crazy and she agreed to meet with us again. She wasn't able to attend church this Sunday but she looked at as firmly and said.. "But I will soon"!

Missionary work is the best work that can be done!

Ohh man so much to write and so little time...
On friday our mission did something that we had never before done. From 8 am- 8:30 pm all the missionaries met as zones and read the Book of Mormon... ALL DAY! If you asked me to do that before my mission I would've definitely said no way, but it was the BEST experience ever!  We were to focus on Christ and highlight references of Him, His attributes, and His words and it was just amazing to be able to do that!

I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God and is in fact Another Testiment of Jesus Christ! The biggest thing that stuck out to me is that the Book of Mormon is written PLAINLY for us! it is so plain and we just complicate it. The gospel is so simple for a reason; so that we can know EXACTLY how we can return to live with Him!

I love you all! Go and read the Book of Mormon TODAY!  It will bring the Spirit into your lives that you just can't deny.
love,
Sister Martin

April 30, 2012

HELLO transfer calls are in and the verdicts is.....
WERE STAYING TOGETHER! I am sooo excited because we work so well together and there is still so much to be done. Actually, everyone in our whole zone but one, is staying here which makes me SOO happy because we have the best zone ever right now and I was sad for the changes. My district and zone leaders are BOMB and we have so much fun together. We recently started a diet competition against our ZLs and we are going to kick their trash!  It's fun to have a good zone with people who actually talk to the Sisters... ughhh kinda annoying but I love all these elders and I'm with Elder Bitton again, who I'm related to if you remember.. his gma is Zena Van Ordon.

I got your package on Thursday mom and THANKYOU SOO MUCH! I love having more pictures and it was just so great to get a package!  I love you so much momma!

Last week was awesome! Sadly, we didn't meet with Paco or Jaclyn because that were both out of town,  but we will see them this week. So the night that we met them, we also met another couple, Rene and Carrie, and set up a time to meet with them. So we met them last week and go figure,  they are next door neighbors to Paco and Jaclyn and  are literally the EXACT same people! They aren't married, the male is more open and the gf is open but will def take more time. They are awesome, and tomorrow we will be teaching them about eternal marriage and the plan of salvation! haha it is weird,  but they both accepted a soft commit for baptism too, so we could have a double wedding and baptism!  :)

Phoenix -the 8 year old came to church again last Sun.. This week we left him with the "Finding Faith in Christ" dvd and as I sat by him in church I asked him about it and he said "What was wrong with that boy? You know the one that looked like a hurt bug..?" haha, "ohh the boy that had a seizure that Christ healed?" hahaha, I just love him. He just loves church and soaks everything in and just loves learning about the stories of Jesus Christ. His dad picked him up from church and actually came into the church building this time so that was pretty cool!

This week we also met a couple named Lili and Ooo who just recently moved here from China. Lili speaks pretty good english so we talked to her and invited her to church. We weren't sure how much they even got from the whole conversation but guess what,  they came to church! It was the craziest thing and it's awesome, because there is a guy in the ward that speaks Mandarin, so it's pretty perfect! Hopefully, we will begin to teach them soon.

Funny story of the week. We taught this guy named Rafael a few times, and for the past three weeks he was in mexico. We we saw him this week and he said he didn't want to meet with us anymore and then said, "but hey I was thinking about you two while I was in mexico and I got you both something." He then went inside while Sister Price and I looked at each other in confusion and disbelief.  He came back out with 2 keychainsfor us from Mexico! hahaha He got us parting gifts... it was quite funny and random.

It also RAINED one day last week. Not just a little... ALOT  and we werecaught in it and it was AWESOME! I love this work more then anything!!!!

Yeah, RAIN!

I love getting wet when it's so hot!

Ok,  it's pouring on Sister Price!

I love you,
Sister Martin

I love you Heather!

HELLO HELLO

Chelsey Evans... YOU'RE ENGAGED!!!! I knew that I'd be the last cat lady in the bunch! Congrats I love you so much. I need an invite! :)

This week was SOO great! We are getting more and more teaching opportunities as the weeks go by. May 2 is transfers and I'm stressing about it a little because I DO NOT want to split up from Sister Price. We work really well together and are finally figuring out things here, so change is not needed!

Okay, so Paco and Jaclyn: well I LOVE them! We met with them and taught the Plan of Salvation. We were a little nervous about telling them about the importance of getting married and keeping God's commandment by doing so, but it went very well. At the end we were really rushing for time, so we briefly covered getting married here while on the earth. At the end Paco said, "Wait, so we just need to go to the courthouse and then we can live together for eternity?... that doesn't make sense. Shouldn't we need to get married before God?" HOLY AMAZING! We told him that he was exactly right and then we briefed the temple, but sadly, we had to run off because we were late for the next lesson. Paco is sooo prepared, and Jaclyn understood too because it's not like all religions teach the need to get married before you live with each other. SOOO COOL!

We also had another awesome lesson with Phoenix -the 8 year old whose parents are Buddhist. I think I talked about him last week- but so we taught him again, and his parents took him to church and he LOVED it.

Sister Price and I had two awesome experiences this week where 2 different people living in separate homes told us they love it when we came over because their home always feels more peaceful! I love that because IT DOES! The spirit is so strong and so evident when you are talking about Christ, praying, and reading the scriptures and people who aren't used to having the Holy Ghost in their homes definitely notice it!

I just thought that was so awesome, especially because I figured they would say they don't like us coming over because we are so sweaty when we come! Yes... THE HEAT IS BACK! My tan lines are out of this world. Literally, when I get out of the shower I look like I'm still wearing a white suit! HAHA! It's horrible but I love it!

Helaman 15:6 "striving with unwearied diligence" Today I read this in my personal study and it just really struck me! This is exactly what we have to do at all times throughout our lives. I'm so grateful for the scriptures, especially the Book of Mormon!

I love you all so much!

WEEK OF MIRACLES!!!

If I learn nothing more on my mission it will be that God answers our prayers! We have been struggling to find more people to teach in this area, but this week I'm pretty sure our teaching pool exploded!

Late Tuesday night right before we were about to head in, we were walking around this condo plex and Sister Price spotted a couple sitting together on a bench so we made our way over to them. (haha isn't it funny that on pitch dark nights we are walking up to random people! don't worry we're protected)

We talked with them briefly about the Restoration and shared our testimonies about the blessings the gospel brings to families. Then we invited them to learn more and they said something I haven't heard for a while.... "YES"! Really, that word seemed too good to be true! So we set up a time on Thursday to meet with them.

I really don't know how to describe the lesson we had with them...
the very first thing we asked them at the beginning of the lesson was "Why did you want to learn more" and Paco told us that he just felt like he needed to have his questions answered. These were a few of his questions:

1. Why can't we pray directly to God? Why must we pray to a saint in order for them to relay our message?
2. Why are babies baptized; they couldn't possibly have sinned yet?

It is an understatement to say that these questions blew me away! Then we began to explain about Christ's earthly ministry and the effects of the Apostasy. If there were any doubts in my mind about my testimony up to this point, they were shattered during this powerful lesson! The Spirit was thick as fog and I was not the only one feeling it. After we taught them about the Restoration, Paco and Jaclyn committed to read and pray about the things we talked about. They said also when they knew that these things were true, they would be baptized! Unfortunately, they are not married YET, but this week we will teach them the Plan of Salvation and they will see the need to make that committment to each other.

This is just one of our many amazing lessons this week. I know that I am a child of God and that He loves ME! If you don't know this, then pray and ask... he WILL answer your sincere prayer!

I love you all so very much

Sister Martin

Sister Martin's one year mission birthday!

Easter Pageant at Mesa Temple with Sister Price

We couldn't stay away. Loved visiting the Mesa Temple!

Craig, Linda, Crystal, and Heather

Had to find the Cafe Rio in Gilbert!

Heather is mimicking Emily's former picture.

Hello!
Mom and Dad,  thank you so much for all of the wonderful treats that you sent Sister Price and I in the Easter basket! You are so awesome and all of it was really appreciated! Those peanut butter eggs are AWESOME and might already be gone... haha! I LOVE the calander that Christy made too!  I was so excited to get it, so now I have that one in my bedroom and the other one with inspiring quotes by my desk. Thanks so much for all that you do.

Weird that everyone is here in AZ for Easter, and that I'm not, but its good though. Easter has become one of my most favorite holidays and it is great to be able to celebrate it twice on my mission! I love you all sooo very much. Ohh and I love love love the stationary that you sent me:)!  The cloud one I kept because it was def. the cutest. Ask Heather if she will be still living in the same place next semester because I sent her a latter last Tue. and it will be in her mailbox when she gets home. Love you!

HAPPY EASTER!!!!
So this week was crammed full of small miacles! It's interesting when weeks are like this because when I look back and think about what heppened this week, it's easy to totally skip over all the small and simple things.  I feel like the Nephites in the Book of Mormon after they had already seen with their own eyes the signs of Christ's birth and slowly in time they forgot all the signs and wonders that they had seen. Remembering should be easy,  but it is definitely not. I'm always trying to remember names, dates, places, and most importantly, times in my life where I have had spiritual experiences; where I knew the Lord was leading and guiding me.

In Alma 37 it talks about how small and simple things are "great things brought to pass".  Missionary work is hard sometimes because each week we have to give our "stats",  meaning how many lessons and so on we've had. Well, before getting lessons there is usually a lot of work done first, aka, small and simple things that have to take place. This week was full of that. Days go by that we don't get any lessons, BUT the great thing is, Heavenly Father always gives us little miracles that help us to know He is mindful of us and that He cares. For example .... alot of times Sister Price and I will get done talking to someone or have an awesome conversation with someone and afterwards we look and each other with a huge smile and are just like "OHHH YA, they are Golden", (meaning their hearts are softened and ready to learn about the gospel and accept it) and then... nothing happens or comes of that amazing visit! This could be so discouraging OR it could be Heavenly Father just showing us His love everyday. His love for me is so evident and I am so grateful for that.

This week was a rough week, BUT just like they said at conference, we are just getting "more polished"! I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer and that without Him this life would be pointless.

I love you all so very much!!!
Love,

Sister martin

Happy Late birthday Bridget and Happy Early Birthday Pops!  LOVE LOVE LOVE YOU BOTH!
This week was another one for the books!
Slow and steady wins the race, right?  Well in this case it sure will because that is the exact pace at which we are moving. There have been a lot of dropped lessons and such, but there is still a lot of really good things happening, so it's awesome! Sister Price is pretty much a pro missionary and she has only been out for 5 months! We have so much fun together and also are really great together. It's so fun how with every new companion it's different, but so good at the same time.

Wasn't conference just AMAZING!!! wow after watching those sessions we were pumped up and ready to share with the world what we had just heard and FELT!  It was awesome because after hearing the prophet we talked wih this guys for about 30 minutes about the need for a prophet today. There is no doubt in my mind that having a prophet today is completely necessary! It shows how much God really does love us.  I mean we could do it on our own but he loves us so much and He wants to give us every opportunity to have added help and support in the crazy life. ohhh and did everyone hear the Elder say "WRITE THE MISSIONARIES LETTERS"! yep an apostle of the Lord said that,  soo I'm pretty sure you should listen :) haha!

Sooo... mom and dad! Sister Price's bike was stolen this week so I gave her my Walmart one. I hope that is okay.  Not sure if she is going to keep it though because she has long legs and it's obviously not the best bike in the world,  but it's hers for now.  It was so random though, because only her's got stolen and they left my piece of junk bike alone... I guess it's a good thing to not have a good one.

I'm so excited for Easter and for the blessing it is to be able to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ! The Easter Pageant has been sooooo amazing and it's incredible to be able to join with people of all faiths and be able to celebrate the life, ministry and sacrifice of Jesus Christ all together.

I love you all sooo much and I just want to add my testimony that I know that Jesus is the Christ and that "there is no other name whereby we can be saved, only in and through the sacred name of Jesus Christ" How thankful I am to Him!
Take care and Happy Easter!
Love,
Sister Martin

I love my Norweigen girl!

Sad to leave!

I love Doug - one of my favorite people!

Queens of the Creek - I miss them already!

Marti and Dolli

Martin and Price! ROCKIN SKYLINE!!

A toast with Martinelies from Bonnie to start the transfer off right! I LOVE YOU BONNIE!

Hello Hello!!!
IM IN SKYLINE!!! Actually that is just the Zone's name, which is just a street,  but I've moved and now I cover another part of Gilbert and also Mesa and I LOVE IT! iI came into a brand new area that  started 6 weeks ago and it is a struggling area with zero progressing investigators BUT its awesome! The people here are SO nice and there is just tons of potential. I love being here and it is awesome to be with my new comp., Sister Price who is from Driggs, ID.  If Christa Strebel is reading this... She knows RAD hahaha small world! But she is awesome and I have no doubt in my mind that big things are about to happen in this area! This week we did a LOT of street contacting and got several return appointments that is cool.

I can't forget to mention that i wouldn't have been able to make this transition as smoothly if it was not for my TRANSFER SURVIVAL KIT, which was a gift from all the Algers! I love you all and miss you so much ! xoxoxx be sure to check out the pictures.

One amazing blessing is Ginny!  Ginny lives right next door to a member and this member talked to us about Ginny the day I got here. She told us how her husband was super prepared but that the Ginny has a mother who isn't fond of the church at all and that was her big hold up. WELL,  the next day we were biking in that area and Ginny was outside :) soo of course we went up and talked to her and it ended up being an awesome 30 min conversation. The spirit is so cool because when people feel it they can't help but to be relaxed and just open up. A lot of the time I feel like we are are therapists!!!! but it was awesome and she completely opened up to us and pretty much bore her testimony to us. She told us that she knew that the Lord was preparing her for something. In the end we asked her if we could come back but she didn't have a good time yet. She took a Mormon.Org card with our phone number on it and looked at us dead in our eyes and said "thank you so much. I WILL call you"!
I know that she will. THEN the very next day were having dinner in the area and we saw her husband outside and rode up to him.  We stopped and he said "Hey , I know who you are!  My wife talked to me all night about you two last night!" He said that they dont have a time set up yet, but that they will soon :) It was crazy awesome. Miracles are happening !!

Its so weird because we only cover 3 wards in this area and in my other areas we covered 4 but I love it because it helps us to really focus on these 3. We've also met some very unique people in this area, which is always fun, and we cover homes and apartments, which is fun too. We met with this guy named Rafael, and he is very unique and awesome at the same time.

Sister Price and I teach really well together which is fun... no awkward transitions and such, which is WAY nice. I am her "breaker" meaning that she just finished being trained and so I'm here to break her of all the bad habits her trainer taught her :) haha, but she doesn't have any and is already a pro teacher!

It's weird not knowing this area at all or the members after being in Queen Creek for so long. It really is great though, because being a missionary wherever you go, people love you.... and hate you! but it's all part of the experience. For all of you out there,  you should honk and wave when you see the missionaries. I can't even tell you how many times we are biking and for some reason or another that day is just particularly hard,  and then someone honks and waves at us and I am ALL better and I have a smile on my face!

This is the Lord's work and no unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing :) Its great to see that at a time when the world is turning away from God and religion in general, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Christ's church Restored back to the earth,  still continues to press forward and more and more people are joining in to help.

my new address is 4776 E Guadalupe #2088 Gilbert, AZ 85234 (I LOVE letters and Packages :)

love you all so much
